About Acupuncture

A Journey, Not a Destination

Acupuncture is both a medical science and an ancient art, deeply rooted in Chinese medicine. It focuses on balancing energy and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal. By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific points, acupuncture taps into channels of energy — known as Qi — that run throughout the body.

When Qi flows smoothly, we feel healthy and balanced. When it’s blocked, pain or disease can follow. Acupuncture aims to unblock, balance, and boost this flow, awakening your body’s innate ability to heal itself.

As Confucius said: “Roads were made for journeys, not destinations” — healing through Chinese medicine and Acupuncture is a journey — a process that requires patience and balance. While this practice has ancient roots, modern science continues to validate its benefits for various health concerns.

About me

Hello, I’m Elena, a passionate advocate for holistic health and lifelong learning. My journey has taken me through three postgraduate degrees, and I wouldn't be surprised if I pursue another!

During my academic searchings and previous careers, I always knew that I wanted to work with people. I love helping people - it lights a spark within.

With a diverse academic background, I found my true calling in complementary medicine, and have completed a three year degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture with a first-class honours. This evolution led to the creation of ERAcupuncture Space, where I now focus on harmonising the body and mind as a Licensed Acupuncturist and a member of the British Acupuncture Council.

Acupuncture, to me, is not just a therapeutic technique but a philosophy and medicine rooted in understanding the body’s deeper signals. Let’s say you have a headache, the standard approach is to give you a tablet to take away the pain. But Chinese Medicine doesn’t just mask the symptoms. We ask, why do you have that headache? What is your body trying to communicate?

My Journey

The understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine is deeply personal for me. Since childhood, I suffered from persistent migraines, enduring the pain without relief, as medication wasn’t an option in my early years. Later on, when I finally tried medication, it only masked the symptoms, but the pain remained a constant companion. Discovering Acupuncture transformed my life and perspective. For the first time, my body’s signals were interpreted from a completely different angle. With a few Acupuncture sessions, my migraines disappeared, and I experienced a profound shift in well-being. This is the essence of this ancient medicinal art - it doesn’t just treat symptoms; it delves into root causes, empowering the body to heal itself.

ERAcupuncture marks the beginning of a new era in holistic health. It embodies transformation and renewal, mirroring the rejuvenating essence of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Currently, I’m also expanding my practice by studying Tui Na, a therapeutic form of bodywork. My passion for healing through hands-on techniques continues to grow, as I explore new ways to support my patients' natural recovery processes.

What to Expect

The beauty of Acupuncture lies in its individualised approach – there is no strict protocol. Each treatment is tailored specifically to you, and even two consecutive treatments can differ. Our bodies are constantly changing, and acupuncture addresses how you feel on the day, ensuring that each session promotes your holistic wellbeing.

  • Please make sure you’ve had some food, a light meal or a snack; Acupuncture works best when you're not on an empty stomach.

  • An Acupuncture session typically lasts about an hour. We’ll begin by addressing your main concern and discussing your health history to understand your unique needs. This initial consultation is crucial for tailoring the treatment to you. Next, I’ll take your pulse and examine your tongue, which provides valuable insights into your overall health.

After this assessment, you’ll lie down on a comfortable treatment couch. To start, I may relax your body with some Tui Na bodywork, followed by treating specific points on your body. You’ll then relax with the needles in place for about 20 minutes. Many people find this time incredibly soothing and often drift into what we affectionately call an "Acu-nap," experiencing a deep sense of relaxation.

  • The beauty of Acupuncture is that it works whether or not you’re a believer!

While it might seem a bit mysterious, many people discover its effectiveness first-hand. Everyone's experience is unique, so the effects can vary from person to person.

After your session, you may notice your body's responses. Some patients feel a significant difference immediately after just one treatment, while others - perhaps with more chronic conditions - may find that improvement takes more time and may require ongoing sessions.

I generally recommend allowing for at least 4 weekly sessions to start seeing the benefits. From there, we can discuss how to space out your appointments to provide continued support for your body’s healing journey.

Following your treatment, it’s best to stay warm, peaceful, and hydrated. I also recommend avoiding alcohol and other stimulating drinks to allow your body to fully benefit from the session.

Self-Care Essentials

Be Kind to Yourself!

You might be a curious traveller browsing through my website, but I believe this is one of the most important reminders you can take with you.

Whether you choose to try Acupuncture and alternative medicine or not, self-care is crucial to your wellbeing. It's often exaggerated and underestimated, but it doesn’t have to be elaborate. Even simple actions – like going to bed early for a good night's sleep – count as acts of kindness toward yourself. Make time for activities you enjoy, and prioritise staying physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.

We often find it easy and natural to take care of others – but being kind to oneself is often the hardest thing of all.

Here are a few gentle reminders:

  • Maintain a balanced, seasonal living & eating; stay active.

  • Treat yourself well and listen to your body.

  • Spend time in nature and practice mindfulness*.

*By mindfulness, I mean simple, everyday actions. We live in such a busy world, and our minds are constantly stimulated. Taking time to be present – whether while eating, taking genuine breaks at work, or simply pausing without distractions – can make a tremendous difference.

Remember, your wellbeing is a journey, and every little bit counts!
